Satan’s World vs God’s Kingdom

It can be very depressing to look at the world today. The world’s standards are in contrast with the Kingdom of God. It comes down to Satan’s world versus God’s Kingdom. Today’s first reading from Exodus 32 and the Gospel of John 5 talk about Moses and how he interceded for the sinful people of Israel whom God had just brought out of exile from Egypt. The thanks God received was the worshipping of a molten calf. God wanted to consume the people with his blazing wrath but Moses pleaded with him and God relented.

How many are pleading for us today? Will God destroy our nation? What types of molten calves are we worshipping today? The powers of sin are out of hand. The world wants more sex, power, money and material wealth. We cannot serve God and Mammon. I once heard it said that the way God punishes our sins is to permit us to keep sinning in our free will. Like the people of Israel, will we continue to worship the molten calves of today until we spiral down to rock bottom in our lives?

But of course there is hope. Our hope is in the Lord. Our hope is in Jesus. The beauty of professing our faith in Jesus is that we know who wins the battle between Satan’s world and God’s Kingdom! We know that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. By choosing Jesus, we turn from the idols of today and worship the one true God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And we do that by loving him with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength as well as loving our neighbors as ourselves.

I conclude with the Responsorial Psalm as my prayer for the world today.

Responsorial Psalm 106: 19-20, 21-22, 23

R. (4a) Remember us, O Lord, as you favor your people.
Our fathers made a calf in Horeb and adored a molten image;
They exchanged their glory for the image of a grass-eating bullock.
R. Remember us, O Lord, as you favor your people.
They forgot the God who had saved them, who had done great deeds in Egypt,
Wondrous deeds in the land of Ham, terrible things at the Red Sea.
R. Remember us, O Lord, as you favor your people.
Then he spoke of exterminating them, but Moses, his chosen one,
Withstood him in the breach to turn back his destructive wrath.
R. Remember us, O Lord, as you favor your people.

Satan’s World vs God’s Kingdom

  1. I’ve been contemplating on this very topic recently. Glad to see I’m not the only one! The hardest thing about being a Christian is living in a world where one’s faith, at best, is unpopular and at worst, offensive to others. It’s refreshing to see blogs like this.
