“And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.” (John 3:19-21)
I have spent many a day in darkness. Simply, I prefer the light to darkness. For me, peace comes with the light and I really like peace. There is still much darkness around me and the temptations of the world continue to try to suck me out of the light. But today, I am at peace. Thanks be to God.
The first reading today from Acts 5:17-26 is amazing. It’s a great example of the contrast of light vs. darkness. The light = The Apostles and the darkness = The Sadducees. The darkness throws the light into prison. A servant of the Great LIGHT opens the doors of the prison and lets the light out to go back into the Temple area to shed its light on the people. The darkness is dumbfounded to find out that the light escaped through locked and secure doors and was back doing its “light thing” on all the people. So the darkness again approached the light but now there was so much light that they were afraid to bring them in by force lest they be hurt by the light.
Darkness is the absence of light and we are given the free will to accept the light or live in darkness. We need only to ask the LIGHT to live in us and by placing all our trust in the LIGHT. And the verdict??? You be the judge. The darkness of the father of lies in the world or the light of Jesus Christ. Let us all choose wisely. Amen.
