A Small Cloud Of Faith

The message for me from today’s scripture passages is God is in charge. I have said many times, he is God and I am not. I have grown to see myself as a lowly sinner, desperately in need of God’s Love, Grace and Mercy. When I read of God’s strength in the Old and New Testament, I can only imagine what it must have been like to witness the power of God.

I have been reading from 1 Kings and God has allowed a drought for a long period of time. Elijah knows the rain is coming and it starts with a small cloud, the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea and soon it is going to pour. Maybe what I can vision a little bit is my own conversion as my faith in God started very small and is growing each day. I hope that my own dryness will be covered by the pouring out of the Holy Spirit in my life.

In the Gospel from Matthew 5:20-26, I hear the words of Jesus and through his grace have really worked on this in my life … “You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment. But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment …” I used to get very angry over many things and acted out, not as a fighter but as a yeller and a screamer. I honestly cannot remember the last time I yelled at someone or was even seriously angry. He is God, I am not. He is in charge and without his Grace, Love and Mercy, I am a dead man, liable to judgment. With his Grace, Love and Mercy, I can unite my will to his. Lord have mercy on us all. Amen.

  1. “Letting go and letting God,” is such a difficult concept! I’ve learned throughout the years that God is in control, and His will be done; it helped my anxiety tremendously when I finally started putting that belief into practice. My newest mantra and reminder to myself is, “Jesus, I trust in you,” from the Divine Mercy message. When I start worrying, I start in on that mantra…
