Searching For The Word

Oh my, Amos is at it again in the first reading from Amos 8:4-12. But today it has me thinking about the future of our country, the future of the whole world. When people do not listen to God, we can often read that God is not pleased and in human terms, we might even say he gets angry. But what Amos prophesied today has me wondering if we are not already experiencing the fall of not listening.

Here is some of what Amos prophesied … Yes, days are coming, says the Lord GOD, when I will send famine upon the land: Not a famine of bread, or thirst for water, but for hearing the word of the LORD. Then shall they wander from sea to sea and rove from the north to the east In search of the word of the LORD, but they shall not find it.

I cannot imagine God taking away his Word from us! Speaking of being lost, we have such separation today and we have his Word with us. If we are lost today and have the Lord, you can only imagine where we will end up without him. How many of us today know family members, friends and associates that have no thirst for God? These people may seem very successful in the world but there will ultimately come a time when they will search because something is missing in their lives. What a tragedy it would be to search from sea to sea, north to east and not be able to find what we need the most. Lord have mercy on us. Amen.
