Jesus Speaks Woe But Do We Listen?

woe

I am blessed to live in the United States of America. I am equally blessed to have grown up in California. Times have changed greatly from my youth. Things are very different today and as I continue to grow in my own faith in Jesus Christ, I am witnessing a world, country, state, city, family, friend and stranger living lives of separation from each other. I think today’s Gospel is speaking to us wherever we live. Sadly, I think you can fill in your city or town and the words of Jesus ring true. He says …

“Woe to you, Chorazin! (Los Angeles) Woe to you, Bethsaida! (Pick your city) For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And as for you, Capernaum: (California) Will you be exalted to heaven? You will go down to the nether world. For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.” (MT 11:21-24)

Fortunately, we have this moment, right now to repent and to believe in the love and mercy of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. He loves us and desires us to love Him with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength as well as loving each other. Only God knows when our day of judgment will be. Will we listen and act?
